OCR-digitized binders live in an onboard document corpus.
When the AI answers a technical question, claims link to
source file and page number. Ungrounded answers
are rejected or flagged — citations over memory is a core design
rule, not a marketing line.
Recurring maintenance rules, engine-hour and calendar intervals,
and completed service events are stored in the operational
database — not inferred by the LLM. Meter
readings, inspection logs, and service journals tie work to
equipment and physical zones so troubleshooting starts where
the problem lives.
Ask a question in the Bridge and retrieval is limited to
Bridge-linked documents, equipment, maintenance, and defects.
The AI panel always displays active context: vessel, deck, and
zone. No generic vessel-wide dumps when you are standing in one
space.
Containerized stack on dedicated hardware: PostgreSQL
operational ledger, MinIO document store, OCR pipeline, and
local inference. Core operations require zero cloud
connectivity. Optional links support updates and remote
support — not day-to-day work at sea.
A Carfax-style audit trail: numbered, timestamped entries for
maintenance, defects, daily logs, and inspections. Historical
records that affect valuation and compliance are
append-only — corrections add a linked note,

Behind the Captain UI sits an onboard operational ledger — a secure, numbered history of work done, work deferred, and damage documented. Built for troubleshooting today and survey/resale tomorrow.
Maintenance events, service logs, defect reports, daily logs,
meter readings, and inspection records are
insert-only at the policy layer. If a crew
member makes a mistake, a correction note links to the original
entry — the history stays intact. Every other write to the
system emits an immutable audit_event (who,
what, when).
- Maintenance rules — manufacturer intervals, class requirements, owner policy
- Service events & journals — who performed work, parts used, hours logged, photos
- Defect reports — severity, zone location, status including deferred and resolved
- Inspection logs — pre-departure, weekly, class/survey checklists with findings
- Work orders — living task board linked to defects and contractors
When key crew rotate, custom workarounds and mechanical quirks
usually walk off the gangway. Vayge preserves
institutional memory on the vessel itself.
Subcontractors get time-limited, zone-scoped access to relevant
drawings instead of hunting binders — reducing billable hours
lost to document archaeology and mis-ordered parts.
Optional handover bundle: read-only audit ledger snapshot,
zone-linked maintenance and defect history, and a cited
document index for the buyer's surveyor. Work completed,
work upcoming, and deferred repairs are visible in one
narrative — supporting valuation with evidence, not claims.

Decoupled from the cloud
Starlink outages, restrictive data policies, and latency at sea make cloud-only yacht software fragile. Vayge runs as an onboard appliance: document corpus, operational database, and inference on vessel hardware. Optional connectivity supports updates and remote support — never day-to-day operations.
